Our Focus amid COVID-19
We Got Us Now's focus, as a nonpartisan organization, has largely been aimed at advocating for the millions of directly impacted children and young adults with parents behind bars across the country by partnering with allied organizations, both liberal and conservative, to urge executives, legislators, corrections, state & local officials to consider substantial reductions in prison and jail populations in order to prevent the pandemic from becoming much worse inside correctional institutions. To date there have been more measures taken at the jail level, but we, as well as others, continue to press for prison releases at the state & federal levels.
We received a tremendous amount of support from allies in the field to support our open letter. It has been shared across multiple platforms from individuals and orgs from all across the country.
